[Ebay] Classic II - Its been run over by a truck, but hey, its yours for $175

$175 Australian dollars that is. As of 2013.09.17

FS, one untested Macintosh Classic II. Seller doesn't know if it works, but even so, you can buy it right now for AUS $175.00

OK, so it looks like its been run over by a truck. But hey, it might still even boot. You only need to get it home to find out...

The auction has a "Make Offer" option. I'm considering making an offer of one dollar

Seriously, I am getting somewhat despondent with the way eBay seems to be heading WRT to old Mac hardware...

BTW, this auction is for Australian bidders only. Lucky Aussies! (includes me) Tongue

And the 1 watcher is?
Looks like toner to me the black stuff. A bit of isopropanol would have bettered the look.
Not that I would give any money for such old hardware. My eyes are becoming too weak for the re-cap business and the FBT will also be bad most likely. Smile
A nice collectible/paperweight.

Yes and I already have one of those ('cept it looks a lot cleaner than that old tosser up FS here), a Mac SE "Superdrive" with a dodgy analog board... one of these days I'll get around to restoring it... Wink

You know, it dosen't look that bad. A good clean up and a recap and i'd bet it would work just fine.

Though, that's assumeing it hasn't actually had any significant drops.... if it has you could be in a hole world of hurt...

That said, it's still too much imo. I never any more than about £20 inc shipping for my macs since all (even working ones) will need a recap and probably a new hdd (and a good amount need work on the FDD)

How about this one then? Here's a Macintosh Classic with a Buy Now of AU $120. Looks as tho' by the same seller who has the Classic II above, FS.

Sellers Description: "...there are marks and breaks on the case and the unit makes a rattle when shaken (likely from the broken pieces of the case rattling around inside). Please refer to the pictures to see the damage..."

You just have to check the pics on this. Tired

Actually I find this one rather sad. Sad that great Macs can end up looking like this & sad that someone is asking such an audacious price for this tat.

Same seller again; asking AU $200 for an equally beat up LC III & Quadra 605 combo Sad

This guy has been trolling the city dumps Smile

I would be interested to know if he ever sells ONE of these beat up monstrosities. Maybe if someone needed a VERY RARE part or two...?!

Say now, tmm: Don't diss city dumps. We all know about the GOLD finds you've made at your local (secret location) tip - If only I was living in Tassie, too! Laughing out loud

Nope. I'm thinking this lot was stored in a warehouse and in moving crates around, a forklift driver, either dropped the pallet containing these old Macs, or worse, perhaps had a heart attack (or an epileptic fit), dropped the pallet and with foot hammered to the accelerator, ran over the busted crate & its contents. The top link to the Classic II, is showing the one that faired the best and is only showing a few "rubber burns".

@24bit: "Lets hope we wont see auctions with Macs flattened by a Caterpillar."
Yes me too, but here I think we're seeing an "auction"[a] with Macs flattened by (perhaps) out-of-control forklift drivers Puzzled ... [a] it has a buy now only option (not an auction).

@IIGS_User: Quite correct, and for those ROMs to be readable too, we don't need any bent pins.

@max1zzz: Looking at those pics, I would doubt the lb's would've survived intact with the LCIII or Q605. The psu's... 50/50? The '040 chip on the 605's board looks like it might be intact... But even if wanting these for parts, the asking price? I'm thinking the seller should wait maybe a couple of hundred years on this lot before asking anything near his "buy now" only price.

However (on that 200 yr note), there is the year 2038 problem where perhaps any Classic Mac, probably G3, G4, G5 computers too (I think Mac emulators also), will run into real time clock difficulties - oh, if only I should live so long so as to see this-melt down 1st hand - Y2K was such a non-event.

Shake a device to judge from the "rattle" it produces how much damage was done.
That is a nice diagnostics for vintage Mac repair. Smile

The ROMs needs to be readable to get it into recent emulation. Wink

that second classic is deffinatley ruined! i would be very surprised if that hasn't had the crt's neck broken, at at least the vacuum seal broken, that looks like it has fallen from quite some height.

the lc II and 605 probably only have salvageable lb's and psu's, but that would be it. deffinatley not worth the asking price!
