Help with Joystick for Hellcats running on G4 -OS 9.2

I need help from some kind soul… for some strange reason I was looking in a closet and found the chart I made for my sons and myself in the 90’s about the controls to fly “Hellcats over the Pacific”…. we had so much fun with that game !….so, luckily I still have a Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) 450 mhz with a OS 9.2….I loaded the game, and it worked fine except that I cannot get the joystick working…. If I remember correctly we used to run the game on a Mac C I and the joystick we used was a “Flightstich Pro” for Mac. It has a round 4 pin ADB plug which now I cannot use on a USB.
I have a “Logitech Force 3D Pro” which I connected directly to my G4 but it did not work. I feel that the game- computer is not recognizing the new joystick.
Does anyone have any ideas about fixing this problem?
I feel that “Hellcats”, gave us so many hours of fun that I could not find that much fun in other more complicated games… the memories are so great…. But flying Hellcats with only the keypad does not cut it for me…any help will be appreciated. George.

Does the "Logitech Force 3D Pro" work with any other program on this G4, or is it only Hellcats that's not working? Is it recognised as being a device available in the "Apple System Profiler" (located under the Apple menu)?

I've read that the Force 3D has no installable Mac drivers, its also fairly new, compared to the G4. It likely requires the Apple GameSprockets (the InputSprocket, specifically) to be installed if its going to work at all on the G4. Check the Extensions folder inside the System Folder for GameSprockets (file names containing the word Sprocket).

Also consider installing/using USB Overdrive - you can DL "USB Overdrive 1.4" from here at the Mac Garden.

Only guessing, but If the game Hellcats over the Pacific does not recognize the Force 3D, then it might be because of its age (1991) and be too old for USB devices and/or Apple GameSprockets. It might be polling for a device in an ADB port only.
