Help with sit_.bin games in

Hi guys i need help with a project i'm doing on Lemmings games, i'm currently obviously on the Mac versions and need help getting the following versions to run;

Can't get working:
Oh no! More Lemmings
Holiday Lemmings 93/94

Working:
Lemmings
Xmas Lemmings 92

As per the title the files i cant get working are in sit_.bin format, i've downloaded stuffit for windows and it wont extract the files into anything usable, on the mac emulator it says it can't open the files, i thought i had a breakthrough earlier when it extracted one but all it showed inside was a 'boxart' file?
Any help appreciated, or pointed in the direction of ready to go files for noobs!

Cheers!

Which Mac emulator are you using, and which extraction program inside it?

Hi Softmac 8.2 and both stuffit 4.1 and Aladdin 5.5.
Not much luck with the other emulators, plus I'm not after PPC games.

I DL'd the 20.8MB .bin file for Oh no! More Lemmings "LemmingsONML.sit_.bin" to test and it extracts OK for me. Using Stuffit Expander 5.5, running System Software 7.1.1 on Basilisk II.

I have no experience with Softmac tho' so can't offer any advice in that area, other than more questions;
What Mac OS are you running on Softmac?
Do you have enough disk space on your emulated drive to complete the expansion?

As the .bin file is a wrapper on top of a .sit archive this requires 20.8 MB for the DL, 20.8 MB for the unwrapped .sit and 24 MB for the unstuffed .sit archive, - 65.x MB total just to get to the extracted items you want.

Hi, i followed this guide to get it running "http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/softmac_setup"
Its system 7.5.3, my dsk partiton is 250mb so plenty of free space.
As i said i have 2/5 games running so the emulator setup looks ok, maybe its the pc version of stuffit not working correctly, but i have downloaded a couple and no luck so far.

No, you should be using a Mac version of Stuffit expander inside your emulated Mac hard drive to do the extraction - after first moving the archive into the emulated hard drive.

You cannot expect to move Mac files safely from a PC to the emulator if you extract them on the PC first, it destroys the all important Resource fork which is in most classic Mac software.

Try the third link on the game´s site. Its Stuffit 3.6.
Mike, I had issues here with SS and Stuffit 5, if my upload wont work either for the OP, it can be deleted.

@24bit: Hi, I didn't have any problem with that .bin file, but uploading the .sit only archive is a good idea (I don't see the need for .bin if it wraps a .sit archive).

Be aware, Un-Stuffing won't work with double-clicking the file in the Finder.

You need to run the Stuffit Expander application first,
then select the desired file from within its Open Dialog window.

Hi, thanks the new uploaded version worked no problem! Thanks24bit! Would be grateful if you could do the same with the holidaylemmings9394 disks, thanks in advance!

The other bin versions say 'could not be opened because the app program that created it could not be found'

I´ll look after it, if nobody else chimes in. No problem. Smile
Done.
Please look at the game´s entry. I made a zipped DiskCopy image for a try.
The image can be mounted via the emulators GUI most easily. Have fun!

Hi, i downloaded the new file and diskcopy6, but i cant get diskcopy6 to load, its expanded to show the diskcopy6.4 file...
It's all a bit hit and miss for me, any chance of a .sit version of holidaylemmings9394 and i'll get out the way! cheers!

Unzip the lemmings file and add it to the "Volumes" GUI of BasiliskII.
The image does mount as desired. Inside is the the Lemming Installer image.

If you are using a default install OS7.5 boot HDD, no additional DiskCopy installation is needed.
After the unzipped image is mounted in BII, open it by double click, then double click "Holiday Lemmings.img" to mount the inner image, double click the adittionally mounted image to open it, last not least run the Holiday Lemmings Installer. Happy gaming!

I see. My bad - forgot you are on SoftMac.
I have no copy of SoftMac running right now, as I found emulation without sound rather dull. Smile
I´ll create the sit file for you.

Done. Smile

One a side note, I would recommend Fusion-PC 3.0, if you have the hardware for it.
Many old PCs could run WIN98, but there will be issues with more recent hardware.
I´m using Fusion occasionally with a PentiumIII W98SE.
For me, Fusion seems to be the closest solution for having a Quadra without buying one.
Fusion-PC is available for free from Darek´s site, the same place where you can get SoftMac.

Hi again, hadn't had chance to try the holidaylemmings file until now....but still without luck! It expands the .sit file so i can see the jpg files and can play the xmas lem 92 demo, but the holidaylemmings9394 is still a img file within that folder which is what i'm having problems with in the first place! I've got diskcopy 6.4 and 6.5 but it comes up with an error msg -192 occured?
Without being a pain more than i already have, can you upload a holidaylem9394 .sit file with the games ready to click to play like the xmas92 game is?
Thanks.

Try again please. Hope I got it right this time. Smile

IIRC it was not that hard to add images to the SoftMac config too.
Please do consider giving BasiliskII and SheepShaver a go one more time.
Maybe this can help as starting point: http://www.redundantrobot.com/sheepshaver-tutorial/
