ok so heres the story...i downloaded a few games for my system 6, but heres the problem.....I put them on a ms-dos floppy and i used a program called APPLE FILE EXCHANGE to convert the mac files on the ms-dos floppy to the mac. Heres where the problem kicks in, when I convert the files to the mac and i try to open them, it says they're not recognised...you can even see the file doesnt work because instead of an icon it shows an icon like this

Put the original sit files onto the DOS floppy, move them onto the Mac HD, then use StuffIt to uncompress them.
my mac doesnt come with suffit...is there a way i can get suffit?

i found this website to convert the files onto a mac disk but i dont want to take chances because i only have 1 floppy, and the closest floppy disk drive is at my library http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/pc2mac.html
As you should have a HD floppy drive with your Classic II, transfer should be fairly simple for small files.

A Live CD should do, OpenIndiana or GParted should work, if you dont have a *nix system running.
If you want to use the workaround frequently, consider setting up a virtual machine running a GNU/Linux or BSD flavor of your choice.
sounds like it could work, but is there a way to do this with a pc? the only computer with a floppy drive is my library and they work with windows 7 with admin rights, so i can run programs like virtualbox on it. Also i have a pre formatted mac disk with me so will that make it any easier?
Sure. You can try HFS-Explorer for writing to Mac floppies on a PC.

If I recall correctly, BasiliskII build 142 is still working with W7.
You could set up the emulator as helper "Mac" to copy stuff to Mac HD floppies.
You don´t have a working SCSI host adapter with the W7 box eventually?

There were some hacks done in the past for HFS floppies on Windos.
As said above, HFV Explorer is the most usable, as it has a file manager GUI.

Mac has always been able to read PC floppies.
Simply choose DOS format and erase/format the floppy on the Mac.
Take the floppy to your PC and copy the compressed files to it.
Bring it back to the Mac and copy to the HD.
Files with sea (self expanding archive and hqx extensions do not need stuffit.
Just double click on the file.
If you have enough RAM I would try o get Mac OS 7 running on your Mac.

just tested my mac classic this morning its running macos 7.1....i thought it was mac system 6, but whateves....still wont extract them archives...and also is the computer supposed to go slow when you load a mac disk?
Its true that PC format compatibility was there with the MacOS for a long time.
Thinking of 6, DOS floppy support was quite limited. The WIM controller of the 800k drives was not compatible with DOS floppies if I remember correctly.
Apple´s new SWIM controller, available with a ROM upgrade for SE and MacII introduced 1440k floppy compatibility finally.
Long story short: I doubt a .sea moved with a DOS floppy will still work on a Mac.
Didn´t we use .hqx just because of the lost resource forks?
Again, the workarounds are obvious.
HFV-Explorer for floppies alone, BII build 142 for a fully functioning MacOS on a Windows host.
The emulated Mac can read/write Mac SCSI drives too, given the Windows host has a working SCSI HBA.
External SCSI-1 drives have become rare meanwhile, but Max1zzz made some adapters for those still wanting to play with SCSI - even for SCA drives!

for some reason when i put in the kidpix floppies it couldnt read them so i made a copy of it onto my mac desktop and formatted it....then for some reason kidpix wouldn't fit back on the disk
