really? theres no way to do this from inside the mac os 9?
No.
im trying to format because i cant get rid of this invisible locked file that is preventing me from doing a restore to the partition with ASR.......
i dragged all files to the trash and i keep holding option as i empty trash but it always says theres 1 locked file..
If the invisible locked file is in the mountable HFS/HFS+ partition - try UnhideTools "Change File Visibility"
option key deletes locked files, I would suggest that the file is in use. Once visible (using FileBuddy or DiskTop or what MikeTomTom recommended above) move it to the desktop and restart. The file should then be able to be deleted. If not, check your Startup Items folder in System, or look for an alias to that file in Extensions/Control Panels/System Folder. If none of this works, you most probably have a B-Tree header error involving that file. Time to run Disk Utility or Drive Setup to repair. Norton Utilities does a good job on these types of errors, but only up to OS9.2.2 - downloads available on this site.
Best of luck.
maybe its a file on my desktop but its not "in use"
this is so annoying.. i literally just made this partition a moment ago with drivesetup..
and im trying to restore an old hd image to it with apple software restore..
which usually works no problem..
:S
im moving all files off my desktop to a folder on a "data only" drive
and will try again
