how to supe up os9 in sheepshaver?

Hi

I want to get games like "the messenger" and "bioscopia" working in sheepshaver.

I'm wondering if I'm having trouble due to 3d, opengl, etc issues

so anyways, anyone have any advice on suping up os9, os8, and os7

mainly os9

what do I need to install to get peek performance and be able to play just about any game?
also, is there a way to get 3d working in sheepshaver even if it's complicated?

sheepshaver doesn't support 3d acceleration yet

SheepShaver do not emulate OpenGL so you won't able to run these games. Get the old Macintosh to play these games.
If you have a Windows PC, you can play Bioscopia from Windows (the discs are hybrid Mac/PC).

oh that sucks. well hopefully they'll support it in the future. I know with virtual pc's there were ways to trick them into having 3d acceleration by using custom video drivers and whatnot so maybe somebody can come up with a trick like that in the meantime.

I don't think bioscopia needs 3d though
it must be another issue causing it not to start
i was able to install opengl for os8 though

so other than 3d... what do you guys suggest to install to get access to more games that aren't 3d? I heard installing gamesprockets helps... what's that all about?

for your interest I found a thread where it looks like someone has some ideas on how to possibly get 3d working.... although I imagine it wouldn't work being confined by the limitations of the emulator...

As for 3d graphics, this will require some work in SheepShaver. Does Nanosaur use QD3D, RAVE, or OpenGL? An OpenGL library could be created for Mac OS 9 which calls out to a Mac OS X library for real 3D hardware acceleration. This is how a lot of stuff in Classic worked on Mac OS X. When you ran Classic, it would install extensions into you Mac OS 9 system folder.

There was a Mesa 3D Graphics Library for Mac which had a software OpenGL renderer. It also had OpenGL renderers for Rave and 3dfx cards. I have this version (from Feb 10, 1999) on my Mac but haven't tried it in SheepSaver. I haven't found that version at http://www.mesa3d.org or at http://sourceforge.net/projects/mesa3d/

Quesa (at http://www.quesa.org/) is an open source 3D graphics library which is binary and source level compatible with Apple's QuickDraw™ 3D. It can use OpenGL for rendering.

might be worth a shot though
some times just tricking a system into thinking it has 3d can get some games working in my experience.

Yep worth a shot but you are not dealing with real hardware only emulation of real hardware...Which this does not exist in sheepshaver...

k, that's what I figured. I'll have some fun screwing around with it and probably have no luck Tongue
