Hypercard fun and games!

Hi all,

I'm trying to research Hypercard games (and things that are just fun which were made with Hypercard but aren't necessarily "games"), but it's sadly so very hard to find any. Does anyone know of active archives? I have only found here:

http://www.umich.edu/~archive/mac/hypercard/game/

And there are a few on this CD:

Anyone else know of archives or have collections they're willing to share? It's tragic so many stacks seem to have been wiped from history.

There is a CD image here, which contains a lot of stackware and is well worth consideration. The CD image's page is named "CD FunHouse 9.0".

There are quite a few individual HyperCard related entries, archived here at the garden. So use the search field above too, and search on the word hypercard.

Does Info-Mac Archive [ http://www.info-mac.org/ ] have any HyperCard stacks? I'm pretty sure it does.

A German site with a lot of HyperCard stacks & resources here.

A large hyper repository, located at the Pantechnicon

[aside] While locating the above two, I stumbled upon Danny Goodman's "The Complete HyperCard Handbook 2nd Ed." scanned and located at the Internet Archive in a choice of formats, including epub. The scanned PDF copies are the better choice, as the OCR'd versions including the epub are full of errors (I DL'd the 45 MB PDF & the epub).

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Digging through them now.

@MikeTomTom I have indeed searched this site for Hypercard stacks! I'm trying to find as much as I can, though.

Also, most of these archives don't have too many game/entertainment stacks, which is a shame. It's still cool to see other stuff archived, but it's not what I'm looking for right now (and I hope I don't come off as unappreciative!)

Wow, I think I actually have that same book back at home in print (bought it at a used bookstore for a dollar or two several years back). I liked it quite a lot, I need to read it again.

I think you're very fortunate to have a hard copy version. Its one that I'd only heard mention of, as being a "quintessential must have" for anyone with an interest in HyperCard. So I was pretty happy to spot the scanned PDF copy. I'm enjoying the Bill Atkinson interview inside, have yet to get far into the remaining 800 pages Wink

I actually have the third edition which covers HyperCard 2.0, so if there's any request about that, I'll be happy to scan a few pages. Looking through it again brings back up a lot of happy old memories, even though I discovered it after the last time it was updated...I was psyched when I discovered the ColorTools stack for the first time! A bunch of old-school HyperCard aficianadoes have assembled an extensive collection of stacks and XCMDs and such, under the name "Pantechnicon". At present, I believe the Pantechnicon can be found at [ http://hypercard.org/ ]. The page at that URL contains links to the Pantechnicon itself, and also to a German HyperCard site "with a large archive of stacks".

I can vouch for the Pantechnicon, since (a) I'm the guy what named it, and (b) pretty much every stack I ever released to the public is in there. The German HC site (or at least what I can tell after Google Translate converts it from German to English) looks pretty good, too.
