Mac Bible 3.0 by Zondervan

Anyone have the Hebrew Old Testament and/or Septuagint for the old Mac Bible 3.0 program? It was sold by Bible publishing company Zondervan. I have the Mac Bible 3.0 NIV, NRSV Bible portions (these would still fall under publisher copyright) but the Hebrew O.T. and Septuagint are under public domain and I am figuring the software at this point is abandon ware. So trying to see what might be out there? Hebrew OT and Septuagint parts never seem to turn up on e-bay whereas the others do from time to time.

Thanks
Joe -

One place that might be able to point you in the right direction is the Accordance forums. As you may know, the original programmer of MacBible went onto make Accordance, and it's still a family-owned company (they're forum admins). Obviously, since his original ThePerfectWord was bought to make MacBible (as in, no longer their control), and owing to the general age of the program it's practically irrelevant anyway, but because many of the users there have been using Macs for years, there's a far better chance that you'll find better luck there. Link here. Good luck.

Thanks - I might give that a try. I've used Accordance for years but the simplicity of the interface with Mac Bible (via Basilisk/SheepShaver) appeals to me. Like office suite apps, Bible apps have become very bloated and attempt to cover a broad spectrum throwing in all the "Bells and whistles".

Until very recently, they offered a 68k version of Accordance for use for Basilisk (as they didn't offer a Windows version until last year). I actually have a number of very old Accordance files (1.x, 2.x) but Oaktree Software has forbidden me from redistributing those and I will hold to that.

I perhaps have located the last "line up" in Zondervan's MacBible 3.0 software prior to their going with Accordance. Zondervan released a CD ROM entitled "The MacBible Library". The product box seem to indicate it contains the MacBible pgm & all the previous modules on one CD. The pgm screenshot looks exactly like the old MacBible interface from 3.5 floppies. I've purchased a copy via e-bay, so if it loads up I'll post results. I doubt I could legally post the software for redistribution for the same reason Oaktree Software won't allow the Accordance redistribution, namely the text copyrights. With exception of the KJV, and perhaps the Greek NT, Hebrew OT, & Septuagint, all other modern texts (such as NRSV, NIV et al) are still under current publisher copyright protection. The MacBible pgm engine might be a different story - So perhaps I could post the "engine" and the KJV? (Suggestions welcomed)

Until now, I had no idea MacGarden/Mac-Bibel (German) is referable to the one you requested, but the German publisher also refers to Accordance.

Oaktree Software is aware of Macintosh Garden to an extent, and part of what ties up them and abandonware is the still-supported 68k version. Oaktree (and Accordance) splintered off from MacBible/Zondervan back when ThePerfectWord was sold off, with probably the only similarity is the same programmer and probably the same common code. I have no idea what Zondervan's claim is, though.

I found Zondervan's "MacBible Library" on CD! Once loaded it's only 31 Mb yet contains Bible translations of NIV, NRSV, KJV, NASB, NAB, plus language modules: Greek UBS NT, Hebrew BHS OT, & Latin LXX, along with NIV Study bible notes & an Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties. (10 modules) The app is listed as "MacBible 3.2.5" dated Feb '97. The modules will also load individually with MacBible 3.0. What amazes me is the early 90's 3.5 disks sold for $130 per module & would have set you back $1,300 for everything on the '97 CD. I bought the unopened shrink wrapped box on e-bay for $24 include shipping. The priced listed on outside of the box is "CBD $97" (perhaps a Christian Book Distributor's clearance price?). It's running beautiful on Sheepshaver OS 8.6 & on my old 1400C. It's a simple & elegant app. minus the overload of bells & whistles of current Bible apps.
