I killed my iBook battery?!?!

My brand new (Late 2001 G3 Dual-USB iBook) battery (NewerTech replacement) now only charges to 52%. I have tried draining the battery, resetting the PMU and recharging.

I have only charged this battery about 10 times - what gives?!?

Any and all help greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

macmeister, I don't know how trustworthy the NewerTech batteries are but I know what you're talking about. Over the years I have found out that one should really stick to the Apple originals. They're expensive, but it pays out. Only a few years ago I had ordered a replacement battery for my mothers iBook G4. It was a no-name battery and about 30% cheaper than the Apple one. Guess what, it would start pretty well but already after a few recharging cycles quickly lost it's capacity.... from 88% to 85%, next time 84% to 80%. It never recovered and after six weeks (and down at 20%) I finally went to order the Apple original. If you have the chance to get your hand on an Apple replacement battery - go ahead.

Thanks Bolkonskij,

I think now that I can stop worrying about the battery. It has obviously gone bad (or one cell has gone). I use it plugged in 99% of the time, so no biggy. The main reason I was so upset was that I paid AUS$170 for it... It was MEANT to hold MORE CHARGE for LONGER than the original Mac battery.

What a load of advertising GUFF!

Yea, never buy third party batteries, i brought one for my iBook clamshell, it held one charge and then died completely. My brother brought one for his Pismo, it wouldn't recognise it at all.

It may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for ^_^

Thanks all, it appears my battery is a DUD.

I will give it one more reset and charge, and then give up. My power adapter connection is a bit dicey, so I thought it might have been that, but I secretly fear everyone else is correct Sad
