Hi!
I've download an .SIT archive, which is splitted into three files. Which program can I use to join all these files into one?
Thanks in advance!
Just drag the first sit-archive onto, for instance, Stuffit Expander 7.0.3. Stuffit Expenader automatically will recognize and join the three parts. Of course, the three parts have to be on the same volume (and in the same folder, if in any folder).
Hmm...I don't have Stuffit Expander 7.0.3,only 5.5. I'm not sure or 5.5 has also such function? And more important: I'm not sure, these files is correctly recognized. In body file I've found string SIT5SIT! I've used filetyper and set as type SIT5 and as creator SIT! But it doesn't help...
Someone could create a IMG file of the downloads in question. Would that help?
Stuffit5 has a menue entry split/join, did you try?
I can't see option Join/split in Stuffit 5 menu. Only Expand. 24bit, do you speak German?
Yes I do speak German.
You can PM me in German, if you prefer. Maybe you are missing split/join if you dont have the full version? Look here: http://www.mediafire.com/?gzm3zqzxyqj
Don't try to do it in an emulator. Do it on whatever computer you are using, Mac or PC, using whatever version of StuffIt Expander works for you. Don't worry about file type, and don't try to do it by double-clicking or right-clicking. Put all the segments into one folder and drag and drop the first one onto StuffIt Expander. I know which archive you're trying to open, and it's a Toast file that you can then mount in an emulator after unstuffing it.
MCP, I have Stuffit Expander 2011 for Windows. When I try drag'n'drop first file onto Stuffit's Window I've got a message: "WAIT DON'T DO IT! This is not recognized as an expandable file. Try double clicking on the file instead"...
Then I don't know what to tell you. I've tested with earlier versions of Windows StuffIt Expander and it was not a problem.
I remember some broken download required me to change the filetypes of the segments. StuffIt Expander wouldn't find the parts by name. I used StuffIt Deluxe 5, Menu "Translate", "Segmenting", "Segment" to create another set of segments. Then check the filetypes with ResEdit (the segments are numbered in the filetype, watch out) and re-apply the scheme to the broken downloaded segments. Quite complicated if you don't know ResEdit, but after all a logical consequence of lost meta data. The files should be re-uploaded anyways.
Well...after a long battle (2 days) I've did it! So, I would thank to all who helped me! Especially thanks goes to 24bit, which gave me some interesting informations, and for MCP for his brilliant MAC-collection! But thanks goes for all you guys, you were very helpful!
And after testing all solutions I have one remark: the older Stuffit Expander, the better. Stuffit Expander 2011 can't extract any archive, which I've downloaded from MCP's collection. Stuffit Expander 2009 was better - it made possible to extract MacOS 8.6 image. But even he can't extract Super Wing Commander files - this was possible only for Stuffit Standard 7.5 for Windows (under MacOS Stuffit Expander 7.0.3 did also the trick, but he was VERY slow).
(I want post these Words about 2:30 AM last night, but forum was inactive for several hours)
From what I heard (but not tested) Stuffit Expander for Windows sucks and is known for destroying file or creator types.
