Macintosh 68k software server package

I've found this torrent titled "Old 68k Mac Software Server (Netatalk)":
http://www.demonoid.ph/files/details/2848567/007049513786/

It is also available in other sites too. It contains the big archive of applications, games, and system, including the small amount of Russian. The tar.gz archive is whopping 6GB and this torrent is designed for netatalk in Linux for the server and the classic Mac (System + AppleShare Client) as a client. Can you check them what inside?

I have gotten netatalk up and running before. It's not that hard. You don't need it though. I have mounted a Mac volume in Linux, be it a real disk or a disk image and can copy files to and from it. I guess it depends on whether you want it to go into an emulator or not. Also can't StuffIt open tar.gz. I'll download it and see if I can get a file list.

I have an estimated week left, but that could change by morning.

It turns out that week flew by pretty fast. I tried to decompress it, but I don't think its a standard tar.gz. I was using 7zip in Windows, so I am moving to Linux to see what's up.

Wow, what is the type of Linux did you use for netatalk?

Its been too long, I think I used Gentoo, but debian probably has a package. The list is a 20 mb text file so I have a link to it here.

Thanks for the list. It has some preterhuman.net stuff inside. What is the size for the uncompressed file from the .tar.gz file and can you test it in emulator (show proof screenshots)?

Well the the tar.gz is actually a compressed folder of all the files. So I'll have to figure something out for the emulator. The uncompressed tar file is around 11 gb, which is a pretty accurate representation of all the files uncompressed. As far as I know SheepShaver/Basilisk II only handle 1.5 gb disk images.

I use 4GB disk images with my vMac and Basilisk II setups. I've used 6.5GB disk images with SheepShaver before. I presume SS is only limited by the architecture it emulates.

Netatalk uses the native Linux filesystem so the tar.gz will contain the files in AppleDouble format. You can unpack it in any OS as the resource forks are stored separately (in the .AppleDouble folder) from the data fork.

To get the files back into one piece again you can use a tool like Decode AppleFile to join the two forks together again.

Will make the disk image that is work for emulator?

I was one of the early seeders for this and should have it in my archives somewhere. The B&W finally has enough spare drive that I can FTP it over and try extracting it.

Well it's okay. But I have a tip:

1. Use VMWare Workstation/Fusion for emulating Linux and netatalk as a client
2. Use Basilisk II/SheepShaver with networking to connect the server

I went ahead and started seeding this again since there were only 2 other seeders.

I've download and will be seeding for a bit. But after uncompressing the archive I find most application files are zero bytes in size, have I done something wrong, I used the built in de-compression in OSX to open the archive.

Is anyone still seeding this archive? I found some other links/references to this archive, however they all appear to be down.

Edit: Nevermind, I think I got it downloaded remotely, if you have a put.io account, it should pop up there since it is now on their servers.

Because the torrent doesn't have enough seeds, here is a mirror that I found:
