Master of Orion II: Battle At Antares - strange thing after installation...

Well, I can't understand something. I've tried install MOO II. I've selected volume, option"large install" is checked, and installation starts. After completing, I see two directories on disk "Master of Orion II" and "MOO data". I've opened first directory, launch MOO, and I've got a message "MOO Data Path not found. Please reinstall Orion ]["
I've tested this installation under MacOS 9.0.4, and MacOS 8.6 under Sheepshaver and MacOS 7.5.3, 7.5.5 and 7.6.1 under Basilisk II and even Shapeshifter on Amiga. Only under MacOS 8.6 installer create ONE directory called "Master of Orion II", which consist directory "MOO Data" also, and the game works ok. Can somebody tell me, why in all other cases installer creates two separate directories, which make impossible to launch this game?

How is your Hard Disk images formatted?
Using a game/application which is HFS-only in a HFS+ enivronment can give this symptoms due to differences in pathway descriptions.

While your on the (emulated) Desktop in 7.6/7.5 you can´t see your files on a HFS+ volume when you open it. From the 8.6 (and better) mark the volume and 'Get Infor' from the menu.

Must be 8.1, not 8.6...
When trying to mount a HFS+ volume on Mac OS 8.0 and earlier, there will be a text file visible, mentioning that this is a HFS+ volume wich can't be accessed.

Still no luck. I can't really understand this. I've created filedisk under SS, and under HFV Explorer - the same thing...

Ehhh, sometimes it is worth to read a game descrioption and comments about it on MG...
Attilla:
"BTW, this doesn't like to be installed on secondary disk partitions. Install it on the first partition, with your System folder, and if you want you can copy it elsewhere and delete the original. The installer makes some kind of path name error otherwise."

And Attila was right - this is the cause...nothing to do with MacOS/filesystem...

@OSH: if you read down through the comments on the MOO II page, you will see the comment made by Atilla, the original uploader of this game:

This will likely have a major bearing on getting the game to work. However, its hard to imagine that it will run under emulation either. I don't know tho', having never tried installing this game.
[Edit] Oops just noticed you'd already seen that warning by Atilla.

Reading through the MOO II page notes, there is a link to the PC abandonware version of MOO II, if you have a PC this might be an alternative route to take. HTH

While you´re on the safe side format-wise I´m afraid the trouble is more than I might at the moment. Hopefully someone familiar with the game can help!
