Vmac and .image files

Hey all! I'm trying to get the old B&W game "Wave 15" working in Vmac. When the file downloaded (from Mac Garden) is extracted from .sit it becomes "Wave15.image." I've tried extracting it within sheepsaver and BasilliskII and also added the .image file to a blank dsk using HFVExplorer but vMac will not run it. I've tried extracting the .sit inside of Vmac as well and vMac can't extract it. I've tried to also extract it within sheepsaver and basillisk and then put it on my C drive but the files get corrupted once they hit the Windows environment (I'm using Win7). Any help with be extremely appreciated as I've been working on this for days and am definitely going to feel it at work tomorrow Sad Thanks a lot in advance!!!

P.S. I forgot to mention that I had the sheepsaver and basillisk gui add the .image as a disk and it opens within those environments but when I launch the game it totally crashes both of them. I've tried downloading the game a few times to be sure it wasn't corrupt. I'm using a Quad 650 Rom in basillisk and a 1.6 rom for sheepsaver...

Do you've installed Disk Copy 6.3 within the emulated environment, which is used to mount disk images like such?

If so, it should be opened w/o problems.

I forgot to mention that I had the sheepsaver and basillisk gui add the .image as a disk and it opens within those environments but when I launch the game it totally crashes both of them.

This is what I'ld recommend, but if it doesn't work, we've to look further. I've no idea to continue...

@logan5: I've taken a look into this archive. My advice is that you extract the ".sit" file in Basilisk II, it extracts to a Read/Writeable Disk Copy 6.3 image file. Mount this onto Basilisk II's desktop.

The mounted folder actually has a folder in its trash - it'll be in Basilisk II's Trashcan while this image file is mounted (the creator of this image file had forgotten to empty the trash before stuffing the image file). This trashed folders name is "©Copyright 1990, EDUCORP" it contains one file named "READ ME FIRST!!". If you want to keep this file or read it, move it from the trash back into the mounted image files window. Else delete the trash to remove it properly from the image file.

Inside the mounted image file are the files:
System Folder, Wave 15, Scores, Titlepage and GAMESHAPES.

Trash the System Folder from the mounted .image (it will be a possible hinderance on Mini vMac once you get the image over to it).
Empty the Trash and unmount the .image file from B-II's desktop.
Copy the .image file to your PC now and quit B-II.
Start a Mini vMac session, when its booted up drag the .image file onto Mini vMac's window to mount it in Mini vMac.

I recommend that you run System 6.0.8 or earlier in Mini vMac, to play this game.

Don't try to play this in Basilisk II or Sheepshaver, their OS's are likely too new for it and also they can't switch to a mono display on the fly which would cause them to crash.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'm not exactly sure what I did but after reading your posts I messed around with it some more and can now just drag the wave15.image onto vmac and it works now! I'm honestly not sure what got this to work but I'm sure you guys posting sent me some good mojo! I can also just double click the game which allows me to use a frontend as well! Thanks guys!

Hey all, I know this post is old but wanted to return to it in case someone needed help. I had a HD crash and while in the process of recovery came up against the same confusion which led me to create this thread. In case anyone wants to run old mac games in a frontend like I do using vMac the best way is to download the game from MacintoshGarden (AWESOME PLACE)! Install stuffit and extract the .sit file to your desktop. Change the extension to .dsk then right click on the game and hit the "Change" button; this will allow you to browse to your vMac.exe (needs to be on your c drive) and double click "vMac.exe." Now, when you double click any .dsk file it will automatically open with vMac. This assumes that you have setup vMac to boot automatically when double clicking the vMac.exe...I think disk1.dsk needs to be have the OS on it and inside the vMac main directory. I'm using Windows 7 so I can only verify this works using this OS. Hope this helps someone!!! Macintosh Garden is amazing, I've been coming here for at least 10 years (way before the crash). Thought I'd just do a follow-up out of appreciation!
