Maybe there is another option for uploads. mega.co.nz went up today, and it clams to be lawsuit-proof, though I haven't looked at the site much yet. What do you think?

Already registered. Would not register with Hotmal account - be warned.
Needs newest flash versions.
I think this is a definite contender for file serving here.
Only speaking for myself...It looks good and it might work great but I would wait for a while and see how it plays out. They might get hassled just because of all the other dealings in the past....
Files will be encrypted - you'ld need to share file access information here.
How's this work for everyone? (The previous external link had gone dead.)
Could you please NOT use mega.co.nz for primary download links please ?
It demands the latest Flash Player (11.5) and HTML5 as implemented in the latest Chrome browser !
That makes it impossible for any PPC Mac user here to download those links.
This is a absolutely NOGO for a abandonware page like Macintosh Garden whose aim is to make old Macintosh software available for all users (especially those still using old computers).
Use for PRIMARY links please those hosters that everyone can use with a HTML4-Browser (HTTP, FTP, and such). Use of MEGA for BACKUP links (read SECOND source) might be OK.
I found Mega dead slow when uploading a small test file. Alas it was working with Safari - I don´t plan to use Chrome. If enough users insist in using Safari, Mega will probably support it better.

Makes it impossible for all other browsers than Chrome, there is a msg that you've to "upgrade" to Chrome before d/ling.
People need to learn to pay for their own storage. If you just depend on the next free storage site, and they go away with your only copies of files, then you deserve to lose those files.
Spend the money and buy the hard drive for your own backup copies, and the web hosting account for stuff that you want online. Not enough space? Costs too much? Then forget about it and don't store it.
A 2 TB hard drive can be had for about $100 and that'll keep you covered for quite a lot of material.
I wouldn't use mega, just as so called "anti-piracy" organisations are already turning their guns towards them
I truly believe the best option is for us to use community based hosting, then we could avoide all these pointless takedowns
Annother option would be torrents, however there is no classic based client for it
However, if we must use external housting sites, upload to more than one. I tend to upload to 3 differen't ones for any file which grately reduces the chance of the file being lost
Remember that MacDomain has offered to do hosting on their Hotline servers.
Yes, would be a good idea to take them up on their offer
I am also willing to provide some hosting (http based, separate from me main server, with a unlimited speed)
Maybe I'm speaking for myself, but I think a lot of visitors to the site are here looking to run a certain application but they either don't have their copy of or don't have a computer it can run on. Using a client to download something would be yet another obstacle visitors could hang up on.
By now I say it should be done. How about starting by adding a how to on the guides page?
A Hotline client should not be too hard to explain and there seems to be software for many platforms.
Certainly Knez would love to see some activity over at Macdomain too.
Wired might make a nice file server too, but to my knowledge there are only OSX and Linux clients.
I heard that docmeth02 is working on a Windows client, maybe he would appreciate some help.
There is a windows client (qwired) but it is really unstable (and craps out on files over 4gb)
As much as i like wired, hotline or kdx are proably better for this site, since they are much better supported.
FTP is nice too, since there is pretty much nothing that dosen't support it, and if people are here to download a single file most web browsers support it
