This might be of interest to all users with MDD and FW800

I have not tried this as of yet, but i am getting feedback from everyone in the Mac community before I even attempt it.. you might want to read through it..It states that you can Dual Boot a MDD FW800 with an OS9 General install. This is a Firmware Downgrade BTW

http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=762.75

update: this is what confused me and the clarification on it and it does work:

Keith Kaisershot: I posted a step-by-step in that thread, only I forgot that when you reboot the Mac into Open Firmware, you must hold down the power button until you hear a continuous tone. This "unlocks" the firmware for writing. Without that, those steps will have no effect.

Phil Parker: okay do you install the firmware first? then extract the files?

Phil Parker:that was my confusion

Keith Kaisershot:You install the updater, then extract the Firmware file from the updater bundle.

Phil Parker:okay thats what i needed to know.. thats why i asked for clarification I have 2 of these machines

This will help you understand better when you read the link on how its done

i'm more intrested in that they are also saying it has unlocked USB 2.0 on the downgraded macs, i'm tempted to try this on my late '03 MDD and see what happens (It is a FW400 model and boots OS9 natively afaik, but if it gave me USB 2 that would be cool). But i'm worried about wrecking my only MDD... so i think i'll pass.

EDIT: seems they are using the '03 firmware, so it wouldn't do any good anyway (but it also wouldn't doo any harm Smile )

Im leary myself but i dont have the original restore disks or id install that and upgrade to where I wanted it.. no one has the right MDD disks, yours werent right set on your server I am assuming, the only ones that might work are the emac fw800 restore disks
