Need help getting a game to work.

I REALLY want to get this game working for my son, as I played it myself as a child.

However, when I burn it to disc, and run it, it does its CDROM speed check, then says it needs an update, with no link or info to find it.

Can ANYONE, PLEASE get this working? I would be very grateful. I know there are some miracle workers on here.

I am trying to run it on an iBook G3 Clamshell
366MHz
64MB RAM
OS 9.0.4

Reading the comment on the game's MG page it might be incompatible with HFS+ If you have time and patience reinstall OS 9 on your G3 but with the HDD formatted as 'Macintosh Standard' instead of 'Macintosh Extended' IIRC.

I re-installed using Macintosh Standard, however, it still gives me the same error. Sad

If so, can you install it to a different drive, even a mounted Disk Copy disk image, formatted with HFS Standard?

I'm not sure. Often this error occur when the app/game searches for game/app files using a preformatted path. Depending on a relative or complete[?] path set and which files where the app/game wants to access it could be workable having the installed app/game on the HFS/'Macintos Standard' formatted volume.

I'm wondering if you could run it on an older machine - and then copy the created preferences file to your current system folder. That way the preferences file would indicate that the CD-ROM check had already been run. I can give it a try when I have time. I have a 540c, several Wallstreets and some old PowerMacs (plus a 300MHz Clamshell). It is possible that it isn't HFS+ compatible and that's why the preference file isn't getting created in the first place. I have enough tools and different OS here that I should be able to sort it out.

Did a bit of experimenting today and I believe you're going to need a machine that will run 8.6 or earlier.
Ran fine on a 266 G3 Wallstreet with both HFS and HFS+ 2GB drives (MacOS 8.6).
Did not perform the CD-ROM check.
Would not run on the same machine with 9.2.2.
Would not run on a 300MHz clamshell with MacOS 9.0.

So I think you are going to need a Powerbook G3 Lombard or earlier, or a Powermac Beige G3 or earlier running MacOS 8.6 (or earlier).

I usually have several spare Wallstreets on hand if you need one.

What would you charge? I also have an Original model Power Mac G4 400MHz that shipped with OS 8.6 Perhaps if I could find a copy of the restore media online I could get it running that way?

I usually get $20 + shipping for a Wallstreet. I'm in Rhode Island.
You could try one of my 8.6 disks located here.

I will gladly pay $20 and shipping for a Wallstreet. Is it in decent shape? Charger included?

Either way, I was able to locate an original Power Mac G4 Restore CD with OS 8.6 on it. It worked!!!

Still, very interested in a Wallstreet. You can PM me somehow to setup the deal? I just joined here but I'm sure there is a way to make a private conversation.

If you click "my account" (near top right of screen) while logged in, scroll down to your "Guestbook Status" which should have both "Enabled" & "Send email notification" checked. If someone types a message into your guestbook then, you'll receive it as email too. You can do the same (leave a message in sfp1954's guestbook and he'll get it as email, if he's enabled those settings).

Clicking a members underlined name link on any page, will take you to that person's guestbook (including your own).
