Networking my Powerbook Pismo

I have an 802.3 "G" wireless network set up in my house. I also have a Powerbook G3 that I would like to add to the wireless environment. It's too far from my physical ethernet cable to connect directly.

My goal is to get AppleShare and Laserwriter 8 (Chooser options) to show up on the Powerbook with the same options I get from my wired computers on the other side of the wireless network.

What are my options?

Gary

Netgear WNCE2001 - http://www.netgear.com/home/products/hometheater/networking-for-home-the...

Meant for gaming devices and set-top boxes, it works on Mac / PC / anything with an Ethernet port. Use a web browser to configure it to connect to your wireless network (you can do this on any computer) then plug in to your PBG3 with Ethernet, powered by mains or USB if it's available. Your Mac will just see it as a LAN Ethernet connection.
I have one for my PBG4 and PBG3. It has better range than the internal PB antenna.

If you want something more substantial, ie. not so mobile, there's a Netgear WN2000RPT.
Same solution, connects via Ethernet to your PBG3 (this one has 4 Ethernet ports).

If you prefer another brand, what you're looking for is a "Wireless Range Extender". Put it into Google / eBay / whatever. You may be able to get an old wireless router (not modem) for $2-$3 and put DD-WRT software onto it, to get the same functionality. I had the chance to get a whole box of these routers for $5 (about 15 of them, with cables) at my sons last school fair, but I had a large HP LCD display in my arms (for $30). Maybe next year. You can check on DD-WRT (put it into Google) to see if the one you're bidding on is compatible. Good luck.

I'm running Mac OS 9.2.2.

According to the Netgear specs the unit is:
IEEE® 802.11n compatible.

I'm using an IEEE® 802.11g (note the "G") environment. Do they play well with each other?

yes, I use both devices with wireless n and wireless g.
Enabling or disabling wireless g and/or b are options.
