Hello. A few days ago, I've downloaded from a Virtual OS Website a image of Mac OS 9.0.4 with SheepShaver. When I tried to use it, after the boot sequence it quits without message error. I'm using the Windows version of SheepShaver.
How far does it boot? Is the Welcome/Extension loading screen removed before it crashes? What's the last thing you see?
I don't use windows, but the general idea would be:
1. Delete your sheepshaver preferences.
2. Launch sheepshaver and only choose a bootable disk image and ROM.
3. See if sheepshaver boots.
4. If not, try another disk image and/or ROM combination.
...a Virtual OS Website a image of Mac OS 9.0.4 with SheepShaver.
Why? Why not install a Mac OS of your choice onto a downloadable SheepShaver for Windows from the official SheepShaver site? SheepShaver works with various ROMs and can run a Mac OS from 7.5.5 (Old World) through 9.0.4 (New World) on Windows.
Is there anything particular about this image with a pre-loaded 9.0.4 that you actually need or supposed to contain & you cannot get elsewhere, so you must have it?
Are you lacking a (OW/NW) ROM?
None of the above are usually an issue for someone with an internet connection and an inquiring finger. Nor are suitable Mac OS's difficult to locate and install onto SS.
If it doesn't work for you, try to build it yourself out of working bits. Get good advice from places like eMaculation.
You might also boot with one of the pre-configured images from redundant robot to get things rolling.
In any case, I would second MikeTomTom to make a clean install from CD as soon as SheepShaver is running and to use the latest SS build from emaculation. That way you are on common grounds with many other people who may help you if needed.
The image you named is bootable with SS, if it was inflated to "macos9800.image".
Sound does not seem to be working, but that should be an easy fix.

THAT IMAGE! Its name is as-is. This is the image I can't use. I changed to OW/NW ROMS and nothing.
The image boots SheepShaver with a W7-64 host too. I just tried.
As said above, DL the latest SS build and delete the SS prefs file in Windows. I had issues with non bootable volumes in the past too, if prefs were moved or otherwise messed.
I dont think the volume itself has issues, if it was downloaded and inflated all right.
Now it works again. Thanks!
gg. if it mucks up again, just delete the prefs again.
