The Classic Mac Zine Collection -- including the unreleased Issue 5!!!

Remember the "Classic Mac Zine", an online "newsletter" that covered Classic Macs? It ran in late 2010 but ended because of a few things (ran out of article ideas, no volunteer help, difficulty with full screen Basilisk screenshots). Anyway, you can now receive the entire collection, including the incomplete Issue 5, which was never converted to PDF until now, plus Issues 1 through 4.

I'd be happy if anyone picked it up, I just have a few simple requests if anyone does (please leave a comment if interested).

I'm interested. The macintosh garden could do this as a community(i think) and we could have certain roles like editors, researchers, etc.
If there was a revenue avenue involved(advertisements), it would be great if this could go towards file hosting for the macintosh garden.

It isn't the Macintosh Garden's magazine, it's mine, so any profits would go to me.

The point is, this is a free PDF, no advertising, free distribution, and it's in a PDF for easy printing.

Secondly, I tried to advertise for other positions (guest articles) but it didn't end up panning out the way I wanted. Thirdly, it's dormant. I haven't "published" anything in at least a year, so the re-release of the magazines would have to start interest building before I even think of an issue 6.

oh ok, well if an individual is getting the money, there would be no point.
if your connection to the magazine is that great, it would be best for yourself to continue it. good luck joe.

I suggestthis community make an online magazine for classic macs and any ad revenue would go back to the mac garden. it doesn't need to be popular, just needs to record information.

Wish you wouldn't have cancelled this, TJ. I sent in an article in the waning days; it was a bit lengthy, and probably would never have made it anyway:( I really enjoyed the 'Zine. Still had the first four issues in my archive on my server (and the first two as emails in my inbox:), so loved to be able to get the unrealeased #5. Thanks!

I don't know if the community could take on a project like this, nil0bject. Temporary Joe's call for articles was pretty public as I recall, and got a large response on the resulting thread, but from what I gather it just ran out of material. A knowledge wiki, perhaps (no, really?), but not a periodical. If this couldn't make it, I just don't think any could. Sorry to be the downer lol...

maybe a mix of a periodical which will populate/fill a knowledge wiki. each issue would contain random classic mac info and perhaps a run down of any updates to the macintosh garden(new file uploads, discussions, etc).
the information from that issue would also be added to a wiki, thus providing a searchable knowledge base.

i'd really love to get a 'classic mac' oriented project underway. i'm just not sure what to do. this sounds perfect. would love more input from you guys.

Wikis are unreliable and kind of messy. A periodical pulls the "best" down in a digestible format. A lot of the content had been hand selected from other sources, with some content (reviews) being completely original. I wanted to be in a format separate from the Mac Garden, so no filler garbage--and I know that by Issue 4 it was pretty clear that it wasn't going to make it.

Part of the major problem is that I failed to realize that although it got a positive reception from Mac Garden, it wasn't sustainable. I had no more than half a dozen subscribers (if even that). I had no delusions about it becoming a smash hit (and not something, to say, quit a day job, the nirvana of Internet entrepreneurs) but it didn't even live up to that height. I quickly scuttled Issue 5 when I realized it wasn't going to work, and I didn't think anyone would notice. I'm sorry if I disappointed people.

I'm actually thinking of starting up an Issue 6, which would be emailed to subscribers, including a long explanation of why they're suddenly getting this one (and missing Issue 5), with a few reprints of articles and a greater focus on reviews, which I think are the strengths (the columns were short-lieved).

I eventually started up a blog, Evenings with Old Games which focused on game reviews, including Mac game reviews, though even that hasn't been updated in a while.
