rapidshare etc. tutorial

ok, i would like to share some stuff (big files-shattered steel, combat mission and others). it seems people are upping via these free hosts but i don't know the first thing about how to up to these sites. for example what is the best way to segment (if necessary) these files if the total file size is too big. maybe a brief tutorial is in order. just a suggestion.

As a free Rapidshare account holder, I'm only allowed to upload files up to 200Mb therefore any file over that size, I have to compress it and Split it,
I prefer 100MbSplit files, so in case of Internet disconnection (which happens a lot to me)
I don't have to restart the whole download/upload again which is very irritating when downloading files over 300Mb that take a lot of time,
and it seems that most Macgardeners prefer the .zip format over .rar when compressing/splitting
disk images like .toast.

Thanks for your reply, Euryale but perhaps i should be more specific: what application is best for splitting/archiving file for upload to these sites? i do have some games on the wanted list (just found the classic version of Fallout) and would be happy to share but I'm way too busy to research this topic. Any suggestions?

Since I have Windows, I use WinZip to compress and Split the files, 'cuz I think the Macs
can uncompress the .zip format as well,

First make a .toast image of the CD/game,
(this is good because .toast can be read and burned within Classic Macs and Windows environment)
unlike .dmg files which can only be recognized on Macs with OS X,
then, compress and split the .toast file in .ZIP format, and that's all.

Mac OS X driven Macintoshes for sure, which is the current Mac OS version.

I'm not sure for pre-Mac OS X versions, but I think it's OK to ignore them (at least today).

re:Betterzip. This looked like the ticket but according to a review at
http://machouse.mhvt.net/?p=1121
it suggests you cannot share split Zip files with others who do not have a copy BetterZip. It doesn’t have its own self-extraction function. that rules out windows users and mac users that don't want to dl the 30 day trial. can anyone confirm if this is true or EVEN BETTER suggest a surefire method for mac users? cmon, somebody must have done this...

What kind of mac are you using and what operating system?

imac 2.4ghz Intel running 10.5.6 is the main one but also few older ppc running 10.4 and a couple clamshells running 9 so if there's an optimal compression/splitting app i can probably run it.

This works on OS 9:

I've never tried making a segmented archive with it but everyone else swears up and down that it works.
