replacing cpus in g4 towers | sawtooth>gigabit | mdd867>142 | g4da>quicksilverDP1ghz ??

uhhh i had this all fresh in my mind a few weeks ago but ive now forgotten

question 1:
is it possible to take a sawtooth cpu out, say a singe cpu 450mhz and replace it with a dual processor 500mhz (gigabit ethernet) (ie substitute the cpu for the highest *WITHIN ITS PRODUCT LINE/MOTHERBOARD TYPE*)
??

i vaguely remember this as being yes but i want to confirm before i buy an expensive door stop;)

question 2:
is it possible to replace a dual processor mdd 867's cpu with a dual processor 1.25ghz processor?? and if so... what about the higher 1.42ghz cpu?

i vaguely remember this as being a yes also.... i think i read of some people doing this to be able to get the 1.42ghz highest g4 dual processor and still boot os9...

question 3:

digital audio g4 - im unfamiliar with these never had one.. apparently they have a differnet motherboard then the tother graphite cases? with 4 pci slots +1 agp more akin to the mdd/quicksilver then the sawtooth/gigabit models... im wondering if its possible to replace this cpu with a dual processor 1ghz quiksilver CPU??

can anyone confirm these? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

#1 Sawtooth single to dual depends on the logic board you now have
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13551/uninorthasicchecker

#2 the dual 867 mdd has a slower logic board bus (133mhz) than the dual 1ghz, 1.25 & 1.42 logic board oof 167 mhz. So a dual 1ghz in the slower bus will run as a dual 800 mhz

The dual 1.42 will boot OS9 when in a non Firewire 800 MDD logic board

perfect thanks for that info;)

so if i got a 1.42 ghz mdd dual processor .. and installed into my DP 867.. it would only show 1.25 ghz because of the lower mhz bus speed.. correct?

i just tried to run the uniNorthASICChecker app and its a .app file i suppose there is no os9 version of this app.. I assume id have to boot to mac os x somehow to run the checker.. I think i had done this before and it said it was ok ... hence why im still interested in doin so Laughing out loud hah

1.42 DP into the 133 bus would run around 1.13ghz (I think)

northbridge-number:
FOR OS X:
1. open terminal (in disk utilities folder)
2. type: ioreg -n uni-n | grep device-rev
3. press return
4. look where "device-rev" stands. The number following the seven zeros (0000000x) is the one you search. (For Sonnet Dual Upgrades a number higher than 3 is needed, 3 won't work. You can install a Single CPU)

FOR OS 9:
1. go to apple system profiler (under the rainbow apple in left corner)
2. from the menu select File > ne report
3. check the boxes for System profile and hardware overview, uncheck any other.
4. a ASP report pops up, click the button for "text document"
5. the last info is "uni -n:" where you can find the info you need (see above)
