Request For G4 M5183 "Medusa" Software-Gigabyte-Dual Processor

I am looking for the software for this machine, I have installed Mac OS 9.2.2 and cannot run it without shutting down quicktime. I think I have the wrong version of Mac OS 9.2.2. I am trying to run Mac OS 9.2.2 only on this machine not Mac Osx. I have Tiger and Panther and Leopard. All of which i have no desire to run OSX on this machine. I had gotten a copy of the G4 Restore Disks and they seem to be no good as they are scratched or my DVD is not liking them very much. Any help would be much appreciated. I would like to be able to install via Firewire if possible.

Thanks Smile

Is this Mac a 450 or 500 or 533 MHz cpu? If so, the 450 & 500 shipped with Mac OS 9.0.4 & the 533 shipped with Mac OS 9.1, so you could try booting & installing from a universal 9.0.4 or 9.1 install disk, then do incremental updates to 9.2.2

The US English universal 9.0.4 & 9.1 install CD's appear to be not available here at the present point in time, sad to say.

Hi MikeTomTom,

This is the Dual 450 Processor I believe,I appreciate the answer to my question and that seems logical I can try that and see what happens. I know I had a universal DVD with 9.2 on it and upgraded to 9.22 and that caused it to freeze. I had gotten it from WinWorldpc.com

Thanks

I have a dual-450 running 9.2.2. I can't remember which install I used (the original system is 9.0.4) but there's a good chance it was the eMac one as it's pretty universal.

If you've upgraded the video card this may also cause issues if the card isn't supported out-of-the-box by 9.2.2.

Hi Protocol 7,

I had thought about that as it might be, I do know its dual DVI but have not identified it as of yet. I am going to try the emac one as it might be a driver issue or an out of the box issue by a video card upgrade im not aware of

Thanks

I had something similar in a dual-500 with 9.2.2 before.

I think I had to boot with extensions off and install the last OS9 ATi drivers. Then after a reboot all was well.

Universal 9.04, 9.2.1 disks.
But I think the emac 9.2.2 should also work.

Hi sfp1954.

Yes I will give that a try if all else fails ot try omitting the 9.2.2 update or use an incremental update

Thanks for your help its much appreciated

I stand corrected on universal 9.0.4 not being available. I had overlooked the "MacOS Install CD Library", which is an excellent resource. Many thanks, sfp1954.

Thank you to everyone that was so helpful, it was the graphics drivers and it needed me to follow this :

OS 9.2.2 with RADEON 7000 -9000 Installing ATI software after graphics card.

Start your system with extensions OFF (hold down the shift key during startup)
Locate the Extensions folder within the System Folder
Manually remove the "ATI Resource Manager" file and place it in the trash
Restart and boot normally
Run the ATI RADEON Software Installer found on this site.

and all is well !

Thank you everyone for your support,it is very much appreciated!
