There is a trial version of Mathematica 3 on MacFormat magazine issue 66's CD (Aug 1998). I seem to recall that to enable it, one had to write to the distributors asking for a serial # to enable it for a one month trial.
I'm not sure... but if you were to find a full serial somewhere, it might fully activate (and not be time-bombed)?
I see that it has already been uploaded to the MG's Mathematica page, but it is too large a file to be DL'd from here (47.84 MB). Someone might re-up this to another hosting site if you'd like to test it out.
@MikeTomTom thanks for replying, 3.0 is of interest and I would like to try it out, but it had a lot of bugs. 3.0.1 was a re-released full installer (not a downloadable update) so I'm hoping someone has an old CD lying around that they wouldn't mind sharing. It would be great to have my old quadra back in regular use again.
Just found this within my stuff, but it seems version 3.0. The first CD is broken as you can see but the other one seems intact. About why the printing is different i have no idea. The box also says 3.0. Are we sure about the 3.0.1? I might have rescued these cd's from the trash almost 15 years ago.
Update: Just made an installation on my SE/30 and this came as a surprise. Nowhere on the disc, the case, booklet or the application name itself mention version 3.0.1, but it seems it is. Now since this is not a demo, and the older 1.1 was removed by request, i wonder if it should be uploaded here, what do you guys think?
@macjames That's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for taking the time to investigate! I don't think you can upload it here, but if you were willing to make an .iso or .toast and upload it to a host for a few hours I would be really grateful.
@macjames: I'd like to see this archived here. If the file is too large to be DL'd directly, too bad, being over-sized may work in its favor. It would be good to have this archived.
The whole iso compresses down to 172MB. Just the mac part compresses down to 56MB. Now considering that the ISO has NeXT installers i think it would be a better option.
Would you consider upping the full iso to a host like sendspace? (300mb limit)
Please check your mail. I sent you a message last friday. Your reply makes me think you have not read your mail.
About the hosting: i have been considering it for some time but i have not found an ideal one. I have several large files that i want to upload here but the 400MB limit keeps me from it. Most of the external links die sooner or later, so if the purpose is archival that's not a good way to do it. I will probably upload the iso for archival for now but unless i find a good place to upload it for everyone to enjoy, i will keep it that way.
