Screenshot Philosophy

I beg your pardon if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but I'd like a little feedback. Finally, my G3 is back online and I'm intending to make some improvements to the library as I run across them--minor edits. I realize, though, that "improvement" is a subjective declaration.

Screenshots are sort of a pet peeve of mine. The actual image of an application in action is what most vigorously stimulates my recollections. Wherever possible, I intend to add missing screenshots.

The philosophical question, though, comes in the selection of the "principle" screenshot. It's my perspective that an actual screenshot is far superior to box cover art, or even an about screen. With consent, I would like to replace some of those with screenshots of the program in operation. I'll keep the existing images, of course, but in secondary roles.

Does that sound reasonable?

As a courtesy to the original uploader, who presumably had an opinion about what was the best picture to put first, I think you should just add your screenshots without reordering...unless the upload is yours, in which case you do what you like.

For me a screenshot of the running app should go first in the database.
As long as the oldish stuff is preserved, it should be no problem. MG is a Wiki, not a holy book - or did I get something wrong?

Hijacking an upload completely, as it was done in the past is a no-go methinks.
Users I am talking about will know whom I am thinking of.

I hope it's not something I've done in the past that you're referring to here--I can recall being pretty aggressive. If I've stepped on any toes, I'd like to know about that.

Yes, it is a Wiki, but consideration of the original uploader is important. This is a community and we should be kind to each other. Different people have different opinions on what is appropriate, but in this case I think we should defer to the choice of the original uploader and just add additional pictures without reordering, unless there is agreement. If we do this, things will remain harmonious. I would be pretty unhappy if someone decided that the picture that I decided to put as the primary one on one of my uploads was displaced without asking if I was in favour of the change.

@grawlix, it definitely was not you I was thinking of with my off topic remarks.
@mrdav, you are of course right my friend.

In adding a little text and some links to Mystery Box, I noticed there was no screenshot displaying. After grabbing some suitable screens, I noticed that there was in fact a screenshot, but it was displaying as a link to an animated GIF. It's reasonable, I guess, to promote that to an inline graphic in the page? I hope so, that's what I did.

Also, the animated GIF seems a little glitchy. What's the general consensus on their use?
