Sealed copy of Enchanted Scepters fetches $374 on eBay

Wow.

I really wanted to get this, but $374 is way above my comfort level.

The winning bidder has a long history with ebay. That suggests the s/he knows what's what.

What makes this item so special that would make a smart bidder so interested?

Interactive fiction has been collectible for a while, but the market seems to have ramped up sharply as of late. There are some Apple II titles (like Cranston Manor) that fetch thousands of dollars.

As for Enchanted Scepters, it was a sealed copy of a 30-year-old title that has the notable distinction of being the first mouse-driven point-and-click adventure game. So I guess that makes it worth $374!

Back in 2011 I picked up Activision's Mindshadow with the "Buy It Now" option for $35. It had been sitting on eBay for nearly a year. Today, that title would have been snapped up in no time flat.
