Is the Garden down right now?

I was trying to download some games today, and no matter what I clicked on, it came up with "page not found". I tried a dozen random games, and none of them worked. I tried one I downloaded the other day, and it didn't work either. An I the only one experiencing problems?

The downloads are being migrated and will be down for a few days.

The entire site has been down on multiple occasions over the past week or so, including the dreaded Drupal "site offline" message.

The bandwidth limits have been removed. Everything is now limitless, which means that Macintosh Garden can now hold all the downloads on it's own. No need to use unstable upload sites anymore.

Just upload the files to the garden and be happy Smile

Great job ! Smile
That means you can upload to Macintosh Gardens directly without the need to use some other hoster.
But neverless I would like to have all files uploaded (internally ?) to some other server as max1zzz's file server, to have a backup just in case (e.g. of server damage, some rampaging user deleting all files, or some hacker assaults)

…and a lot quicker it is too! Do I sense a newly created team work/companionship here? I'll rise my glass for that too together with mikeTomTom! Cool

Big saving on double uploading too (before it was once to internal server to preserve, and again to external server to be downloadable)

SwedeBear: The site might be hosted somewhere in your home country, hence the difference in speed Wink.

About the backups; they are taken care off. No need to do this manually since everything is scripted and secured for harddrive failures, children removing files from the pages etc.

No need to worry. If someone want's to download everything and save it anyway, be my guest, but no one actually NEEDS to do it since it's being taken care of internally Smile

And yes, use the sites upload system on the pages. Mac Garden now works like it was meant to work from the beginning. It's going to be awesome as soon as everything is uploaded and everything works like it should.

So...let me make sure I've got this right. Bandwidth limits are gone AND everything is automatically backed up, too?

That's friggin' awesome.

I was kind of worried when the site went offline (I was around back when HotU went down with the Garden, so...bad flashbacks!) and download links were broken, but now that I hear why, that's pretty cool. Here's hoping we keep this preserved forever!

I hit a missing page (amazon?) during the change. I must admit, it is running faster here (Aus) already.

Great Job!

Many, many, big thanks to you, Knez!
I can´t be mistaken that your long lasting offer has been accepted, can I?
Cheers!

If someone would take care of the X-files now, as it is done on some wired servers, we would have an almost perfect Mac vintage world. Wink

Glad I saw this post. I have just been updating my G4 Power Mac and kept getting "page not found" on a bunch of the stuff I wanted to install on it. Thank goodness for OS 9's drag n drop installation. I just booted my G3 iMac that I had been using as my OS 9 machine and just used FW target disk mode. Moved about a dozen applications and all work fine.

Only thing I can't figure out is the folder with themes (Next / Aqua /etc ). I moved it to the applications folder but I don't see it in Appearance control panel. I guess I will have to install once the move is complete.

@natgab: Themes usually go into the Appearance folder
"[HD name]:System Folder:Appearance:Theme Files"

wow - haven't been around here for month and ran into this message. This is indeed great news. After losing virtually all my uploads when megaupload went down, I had really lost any motivation to upload any of my stuff again. Now I might consider uploading images again. So hats off to the new team Smile

I just wanted to thank all the people who host these sites, it is very much appreciated and we would be lost without you all.

Wow, you go back that far? I remember the old Mac Garden--it was arranged like a System 7 desktop (OS X's antialiasing fonts mess up the illusion, even on Archive.org). There were all sorts of limits back then, limiting exclusively to floppy disk titles (often of ambiguous quality, sometimes a copy off of a hard drive). We've gone a long way. Smile

http://www.hotud.org/ (the lately active one) currently writes on the pages:

Bad news everybody!
Okay so this\'ll be short, but in all likelihood, I am going to be shutting this page down. It\'s expensive (very), and I do not think it\'s needed anymore given the success of GOG.com, Abandonia, and a few others. I simply don\'thave the time to keep it up and running, nor can do I have the time to make it the kickass community that I think it needs to be. I tried to ping abandonia about taking it over, but I never got a response. if anyone else has any alternative ideas, drop me a line at admin at hotud.org and we can figure something out.

There is also http://homeoftheunderdogs.net/ , which is an archive of the previous HotU site.
