I tried to install Sheepshaver on my iMax OSX, but I guess I'm too inexperienced with Emulators. 
I tried to go by the guide provided on the site, but couldn't really figure how to grab a ROM, where to place it or how to make the program workable.
Could anybody provide a quick and easy to understand step-by-step??
You can download the ROM from here:

choose the NEWWORLD86.ROM,
which works with Sheepshaver, just unzip it and place it in the same directory of Sheepshaver.
*also if you plan to install Basilisk emulator
(which by the way is the same procedure as Sheepshaver)
you will need the QUADRA650.ZIP ROM file from the same download link.

It could really help people get their emulators running.
I have the Documentary "The triumph of the Nerds" which in some part
shows the legal issues concerning ROM files, something similar happened with IBM and Compaq
when Compaq released its very first PC, Compaq designed their own ROM, and as long as the ROM code was not exact the same as IBM's they were not infringing any copyright laws.
so I think it's totally legal to host at MacGarden, a ROM like NEWWORLD86 ROM
since is not the same copy as any PowerPC ROM (so I agree with Carl on this)
but I'm not sure about the QUADRA650 ROM, since it's Apple's property.
...of course a Lawyer knows best.
OK, got a ROM by digging through my old stuff.
Now, I put them in the same folder, inserted my old iMac-install-CD and when I open SheepShaver, the lill smiling MAC comes up, the OS-WELCOME-smiling-Mac-screen, but then it just crashes.
Also, when I open SheepShaver with no ROM in the same folder, there's no screen to pop up, the app seems to crash.
So, what am I doing wrong??
In the Sheepshaver directory, there's another program called "SheepShaverGUI"
you have to configure that first,
and there should be another program called HFV , with that you must first create a disc Image
where the OS is going to be installed and eventually all the software too.
Read the Guide of the link I gave you thoroughly because I use the Windows XP version of Sheepshaver, and nonetheless Sheepshaver is similar on both systems,
I'm not sure how to do it on Mac OS X.

I use SheepShaver in Windows XP (yeah, you can hate me for that , Hee Hee Hee

For SheepShaver, you need a general retail install CD. That is, the CD with a white label with a big yellow "9" on it. Machine specific CDs will only install on the machine they were provided with.
Do you have the proper CD?

@Coma-man: Under which OS X are you running SheepShaver? The iMac Install CD; it´s a real CD-ROM or is it a image?
I've got Snow Leopard. And yes, it's a real CD from my old colour-iMac.
Just to make sure: you have the latest build of SheepShaver from here?
Is there a recovery image on the CD? On my installation disks for the G4 there was a dmg to be used as a backup and rewrite/overwrite a failuring harddisk. Such backup can be copied onto a fresh hard disk image and used by SheepShaver directly without the need of installation.
You can also try this trick: mount the Mac OS Install CD. Make sure SheepShaver is set to 'Boot From > Any'. Start SheepShaver.
Alternative: After you inserted/mounted the Mac OS Install CD; start Disk Utility, mark Install volume, click 'Remove from Desktop'. Then start SheepShaver.
At least under Leopard SheepShaver (and VPC) can´t remove the mounted CD from the desktop thus OS X interfere with the disk operations resulting in erratic behaviour from SS, I´ve been told.
BasiliskII is much more robust coming to booting from CDs/Floppies under Leopard as long as you remove the volume from desktop first.

so i have sheep shaver running but every time i run it it says that the cdenabler could not be found but the file is loaded into my drivers folder in my system folder whats going on
One possibility:
the cdenable driver is 32 bit. It doesn't work in 64 bit versions of Windows.
