Dark seed cd rom version does not work

Hi
I've downloaded here the Dark seed CD game and tried to run it with basilisk II.
Using stuffit, I found that inside the bin file there was a srt file.
Inside the srt, there is 1 folder called darkseed, in which there is another folder : dark seed patch 1,in which there is one file : dark seed p1
When I double click this file, I get : "the document could not be opened because the application used to create this file could not be found".
So what to do now ?
Thanks

Sound to me like the error you will get if you try to unstuff files in the "Unix" (Mac/LInux) or "My Computer" (Windows) shared folders during a Basilisk II or SheepShaver session.

If you have the shared folder option turned on, then you should never work with files inside of this folder during an emulated Mac session. You should only use this folder for moving files between the host pc and emulator.

Instead, try moving the .bin file inside of the boot-up hard drive icon on your desktop (or any other emulated hard drive icon) before you use StuffIt on it.

Thanks,
I actually used hlv explorer to put the file on the hard drive.
What do you mean by : "try moving the .bin file inside of the boot-up hard drive icon on your desktop" ? to do that I would need the bin file to appear somewhere in the emulated macintosh first. If I can't do it with hlv explorer then how ?

OK never mind the last message, I tried again and it worked. Thanks a lot.
Now I'm stuck at the game introduction, because the mouse works, but none of the mouse buttons work and none of the keypads (they work fine in basilisk but not in the game.)

I haven't tried this game but I know that some games will write their own mouse control routines which do not interact with emulators very well, if at all. You may be attempting to play such a game.

Mouse and display setting problems with emulated games are the most common issues I read about in here.

Hopefully someone who has had success with this game on BII will see this and chime in.

the download page on this wesite says that the game can be played with basilisk and sheepshaver (couldn't make sheepshaver work, though).

As software items are added to the Mac Garden by individuals, its impossible for one person to test each item for its usability under emulation, given the vast number of apps & games hosted here. We have to rely on the uploader for the best information and hope that it is accurate. Sometimes this is not the case as you unfortunately seem to have discovered.

At this point it would be really good if you could add your findings as comments on the game's page. More as a "heads-up" for others to be aware of, but also as an additional point of reference should someone knowing of a workaround come along to help.

Now I'm stuck at the game introduction, because the mouse works, but none of the mouse buttons work and none of the keypads (they work fine in basilisk but not in the game.)

I've since taken time to install this game on Basilisk II. The mouse works fine for me. Dark Seed uses standard Macintosh "one button" mouse controls, so there is no conflict with the emulator.

To get past the endless loop of the introduction you start a new game by moving the mouse up to the top of the screen to make the menu-bar become visible, then click "File" menu > "New Game" (or "Open Game" if you have saved games previously). Alternatively, use the keyboard "⌘ + N" key combo to start a new game, or "⌘ + O" to open a previously saved game.

Once you begin playing, you can save a game and just double-click its icon to launch the game into where you left off.

Read the "QuickReference.pdf" for mouse & keyboard commands and what the various cursors do during the game. Also the "Walkthrough" text doc for brief clues on what to expect during the game.
