Yep, there was much rumour that it would be released / ported, but I don't think it ever came to pass.

A bit annoyed we all were after all the waiting. Just like Delta Force: BHD Team Sabre, Aspyr said "coming soon" for ages and then nothing.

Yeah it was supposed to be ported to Dreamcast also, but they took so darn long that the console was dead in the water by the time it was finished.

I remember hearing about Half Life for Mac getting cancelled, long ago. I don't think it even hit the development stage.

I don't know about the Mac, but if you've ever played the PlayStation 2 port, that's actually the Dreamcast version ported yet again to the PS2. I actually like the original PC version better! They just added unnecessary detail and ruined the original aesthetic, as far as I'm concerned.

Andrew Meggs was the head, and only developer on the Mac port of Half-Life, he was a part of Mumbo Jumbo in 2001, and was the leader of Myth III development.

From what I heard the game was completely finished, and played fine, but the online segment was incompatible with the PC version, and either Valve or the company he was working for, Logicware.

To my knowledge, it was never leaked, and cannot be found anywhere.

Yes half-Life is possible to run on modern Macs like the intel. I have HL and HL2 running under an app called Crossover, which installs the half-life games and mostly any windows game directly from their CD's (express or un-supported install).

And I reckon they run flaw-less under emulation! Although HL is perfect, HL2 on the other hand is very buggy in parts, but fully playable

Theres also other apps such as Cider which is a built in windows to mac game app which im unsure about.. The best options are probably Bootcamp which installs mostly any version of windows to your mac but uses the most space, and also if you're gonna be using a lot of windows games and apps.

Soo all and all if you wanna stick with basics according to small size, and just want to play half-life series on your intel mac. Or maybe just a few small other games, Crossover is a great option for that!

Sure very simple. If you're a bad ass pirate like myself, download this torrent called CrossOver Games (which you can also buy). Simply insert the game CD and crossover will open and recognize it.

Theres 2 types of installs: First theres one called "express install" which will find the .exe file on the CD and easily setup the game from there.

Option 2 is called "unsupported install", which lets you install games that arnt supported by the CrossOver app. Both types are very much common sense, and easy to understand/use.

Original HL + Blue Shift were hacked and completed by regular d00ds for the DreamCast - I have both, and they are easily obtained via rapi*dsh*re etc. from Dreamcast sharing forums... The version I have takes forever to load, loads often, and is (in my opinion) buggy as hell. You may find a better custom build out there tho...

I still have my Dreamcast, and I downloaded and burned it to a disc. I think I ave a pretty good build, the load times are short, and the game isn't to buggy. You can download the good build at dcisozone.com, if you still have a Dreamcast, it's worth the download. I got mine a few months back for $5.

Yeah, the Half Life Mac port by Logicware was cancelled at the last minute (circa 1999-2000) but still missing.

Yeah, the pretty much realized the DC was going to be dead in the water at the release of the PS2.

Would be awesome if the Dreamcast version supported the mouse and keyboard, best of both worlds, right there.

Dreamcast also seems to be the first console where computer ports weren't completely terrible, possibly because they finally broke 640x480.

According to the statements of the OP in this link, http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-18299.html (assuming they are accurate) it sounds like some kind of closed Beta Demo (3-4 levels) of Mac Half-Life has been made available to Apple employees for demonstration purposes back when the port was nearing completion. This might very well be possible, but if so then it's a shame that this demo has not been leaked onto the Net yet since this would most likely even be legal by todays standards.

I've been playing a Cider ported OS X version of HL + Expansions for some time now but I'd still love to try it out on my old Lime G3 iMac. It's just something that needs to happen - nuff said. :]

If you want a non-DRM version, though, you'd still need to obtain a pirated/hacked version.

I'm aware of the fact that HL has now been officially released for OSX on Steam, i was just speculating about a possible demo version of the classic OS 9 port from 1999 that was canned at the last minute.

Supposedly HL for Mac was pretty much complete. It even managed to play with PCs on networked games, something given as a reason for cancellation. Logicware was doing the porting, and it did do decent conversions, but was somewhat of a fly-by-night operation and closed up in the early 2000s.

The real reason was that Mac ports tended to sell poorly compared with their PC counterparts, and the whole era (a rather grim time from 1996 to 2007) was a rotten time for Mac games in general. Sure there were some great shareware titles during that time, but at a time where they were churning out sub-par ports and getting hero worship for it, that's not good.
