Office X for Mac OS X

I have the student and teacher edition of Microsoft Office X that I can upload to the Garden. It requires OS X 10.1 and works up to 10.4 although it may work in later OSes but I am unable to test. Office X was released in November 2001. Is the appropriate to upload/share here or is it too new?

First, I think there should be an entirely separate only-OS-X...-section,
mixing Classic Mac software and OS X software within the same garden is not a good idea.

It's strange how we all fall into opposite opinions when it comes to OS X software, even if we agree on everything else.

I believe that there is a place here for OS X abandonware. And make no mistake, there is a large amount of OS X abandonware, particularly games, that will need to be preserved. I can only think that they're not asked for more often because they are muh harder to play today, ie. there is no emulation available.

Except for PearPC of course. Its probably not much use for gaming unless its a card game or something slow, but I use it quite a bit just to look at dmg's and to test the odd old app out when I'm not near a Mac. Currently running Panther on PearPC.

As far as X progs go, I'm in much the same mind as Euryale, I dislike seeing OS X apps here, and there's more coming in all the time. I don't mind Carbon apps as much. So for me, if they run native at least on 9.2.2 its OK.

Consensus will rule tho' so I'll live with that too.

I agree with MikeTomTom, and with Euryale's idea of a separate section for purely OS X if we must have such titles here.

Dungeon Siege is an example of the OS X software we would be failing to preserve - on of the best games ever written for a Mac.

as much as i do think older osx software must be preserved, i do agree that it should go on annother site

It's probably getting to the time someone should look into setting up a osx based anbandonware site.

I think we need a bold disclaimer at the top of the description (Mac OS X ONLY) for titles that only run on 10.0->10.3, if it runs on 10.4-> I think we should not allow it here (at least until 10.9 appears) Smile

.....if it runs on 10.4-> ....

Do you mean "runs *natively* on 10.4"? There are some old PPC games that will still run on OS 10.6.8 for example but they require Rosetta

I mean OS X only games, not classic or carbonised. Seeing we don't have to worry about server space now (noodge!)

Users in MG admit Office:mac 2001, but not a recompilation of that suite for Mac OS X?
(After I've installed Office X, when I put the serial number and I pressed Next, the program was asking me for a Office 2001 folder in my Mac. Sounds weird, but I think Office X is the same Office 2001 for Mac OS X).

it may or may not be built on 2001 (but I remember something somewhere about how it was kind of a last-minute update to 2001 so it would be OS X compatible - makes sense since it "interrupts" the 3-year update cycle ('98, '01, '04.)

However, since it works in Leopard (and thus probably in Snow Leopard with Rosetta) AND, when combined with Open XML Converter it is compatible with .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc., I balk at labeling it 'abandonware' yet.

Last updated in 2007 falls a little short of the 'ten year' wisdom - but maybe when Apple drops support for Snow Leopard it would be OK.

Add me to the list of proponents for a OS X abandonware 'sister-site', but let's not endanger the Garden with OS X 'grey-area' apps.

I remember that someone uploaded Word X some time ago. Admins immediately killed the upload.

That diligence has been noticeably absent lately, as have certain admins' visible presence. No, I don't mean IIGS_User or Daxeria
