Unfortunately you can't use the full Live installer with a Lite key. Does anyone have a copy of Live Lite 4 for OS9?

apparently from what i can tell v4.0 thru v4.14 are the only versions of ableton for os9 that supports VST Instruments.. and midi tracks/clips.

the other versions all only support vst effects!!! not instruments!!
I think live v2+ will host/support vst2-format effects plugins.
and live v1.0 will only host/support vst 1.0-format effects plugins.
which would account for alot of the errors that people would encounter trying to use
v1 for example with a more advanced effects plugin would probably yield some bad results.

to briefly elaborate on this "vst-format" i speak of; here is some vst history via wikipedia:

Steinberg released the VST interface specification and SDK in 1996. They released it at the same time as Steinberg Cubase 3.02, which included the first VST format plugins: Espacial (a reverb), Choirus (a chorus effect), Stereo Echo, and Auto-Panner.[1]

Steinberg updated the VST interface specification to version 2.0 in 1999. One addition was the ability for plugins to receive MIDI data. This supported the introduction of Virtual Studio Technology Instrument (VSTi) format plugins. VST Instruments can act as standalone software synthesizers, samplers, or drum machines.[2]

I tried my Lite key with the full 4.1.4 installer and it wouldn't accept it. I know later versions of Live could take either key but not 4 it seems.

Behringer Edition. I tried with the 4.1.4 installer from the link that cassette posted above. Wouldn't take the key.

perhaps you made a mstake in your key because my key worked! i copied mine directly from my registered ableton account copy + paste..... so no room for error

using a pc-based exe crack by H20 WILL WORK to patch the os9

my excitement would be even greater if this was for v4+, but i will keep looking for that, the ultimate version for os9 audio production...! but im still excited about this, another victory for the os9 retro producer pack;)

based on my success with the v3.04 - i believe there is a very good chance that the h20 v4.04 pc exe-based patch posted in another thread here WILL WORK to patch the os9 executable IF USED WITH the correct v4.04 version...

after some further research... ive found that ableton live 4.04 was released around the latter half of 2004, and there was a dvd or cd copy of this that was bundled with the m-audio oxygen 8 keyboard.
if anyone could find a copy of this dvd, we might just be in business with being able to get a working patch for ableton live 4 on mac os 9.

and i could stop trying to acheive this insanely geeky unobtainable goal + actually focus on making some music;)

ableton live lite 4.04 also may have been bundled with m-audio pci cards such as the delta 1010LT or the 2496 Audiophile, or 192 Audiophile cards....although alot of the green/black os9 compatible live lite 4 installer cds were replaced with black/white osx only live lite 5 + 6 cd/dvds...SOMEONE HAS TO HAVE THIS GREEN/BLACK LIVE LITE 4 DISC! it was distributed publicly from october 2004 to around july 2005 at least.... bundled with many different products.... please check your cd stash if ur a musician and own some m-audio products.. it may be the correct version of 4.04 that can be patched... and would allow any and all of us os9 musicians to use this old capable software, to be able to use VST instruments inside of Live! on as many different computers as we have..!!! without being bound to a single machine / single license

Yeah I'm still looking for a OS 9 copy of Live Lite 4. If I manage to find one I'll post it right away. Unfortunately there are no real music shops near me. I think you could get Lite CDs from those sometimes. They'd have loads of them from hardware bundles and other promotions. Getting Live Lite is pretty easy. It's getting old versions that's a pain.

Yep I saw that. I'm just holding out for 4 as I have a licence for it. Building a retro DAW is one challenge. Building a legit one takes it to another level

i wonder if its possible to have more than one rewire app open, ie: if i could have reason rewired into ableton, rewired into cubase.. that would be great.. but somehow i think that would kill my little g4 450mhz ! lol

i respect that u find pride in the legitimacy of live lite, but TBH the limitations of live lite 4 on os9 are pretty severe!! on osx they upgrade the license to live lite 8 and ease up the restrictions quite alot.. but, its way restrictive, im pretty sure i posted the extreme limitations of live lite 4 above or in the other thread mentioning ableton, that starts out being about Kontakt 1.5 or somnething;)

Nope, this serial has never been activated. It's just sitting in my Ableton account. When I try to enter it into Live 4.1.2 or 4.1.4 I get this.

then your serial number isnt a live lite 4 serial. its probably a live lite 5 or perhaps your serial was upgraded to live lite 8 automatically, either way, u should contact ableton, they are amazing, they really go above and beyond for even their nonpaying bundled software customers.

they even let me transfer one of my extra live lite licenses to a friend... it was for live lite 5 tho...
are you sure your live lite isnt for 5 or 6? if it is you may even ask them to make it a live lite 4 serial and explain that your trying to use it on a mac os 9 ppc mac... i wouldnt be suprised if they sort you out... all i had to do to get their full help with trasnfering my live lite 5 license was to take a picture of the green piece of paper that was high def enough for them to see clearly.

on another note, i just got back from the store, where i was trying to buy a keystation 61es but realized it contained live lite 6 instead of 4;( the outside packaging of the box was the black/red design from around 2006-2007 instead of the blue/grey design from around 2004-2005

Well, I decided to try and activate the OS X version. Seems Lite 4 keys are OEM-specific and my download copy isn't a Behringer edition like my key. So I couldn't even activate that.

Not only do I need to find Live Lite 4 for OS 9, I need to find Live Lite 4 Behringer Edition for OS 9.

So yeah, I can bin that idea for now.

If/when I manage to find a copy of Lite 4 for OS 9 I'll ask support if they can change the key to a matching OEM if necessary.

im pretty sure they can do things like that as they have dedicated staff just for managing the unlock code requests etc, if u contact them, and u have a valid code, they should be able to bend the rules to leave u with a workable solution!

i tracked down a live v4.04 installer, seems this is the cd that comes with many audiophile 2496 cards aswell as the keystation 49e keyboard..... cant wait to get my hands on this 4.04 installer to see if this h20 patch works on the 4.04 executable file much in the same way the 3.04 patch worked..

i would gladly buy this just to get the cd, but the interface features no midi, only audio, which kind of sucks, because the hardware-superior "FIREWIRE AUDIOPHILE" model (which does feature a downloadable os9 driver) -->(http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may04/articles/maudiofirewireap.htm) also features MIDI but was apparently bundled with a lesser form of ableton live (LIVE DELTA) which is far inferior to live lite 4 due primarily to its lack of midi/vst capabilities.

thats y its so hard to find this specific disc..they replaced the inner contents of the bundled green/black live lite 4 with white/black live lite 5 + 6 cds without even updating the outer boxes to reflect the change in version

PLEASE ive been trying to hustle people on ebay to make me a copy and its not going so well.. this guy was kind enought to send me a pic before refusing to copy it for me;) lol.. its a freaking demo cd.. its entirey freeware without the serial number.. people are so ridiculous!!!!!!!

ok well after some help by "macos9forever" i was able to get a copy of this live lite 4 cd for os9/osx -i tried to patch the file the same as i did with v3.04 and long story short, to put this entire fiasco to bed -- it simply does not work.........

perhaps whoever made the crack, like everyone else, was so fixated on the osx version that they completely dismissed or ignored the os9 version... so my short lived reinvigorated enthusiasm for attempting this can now be put back to bed... and i will just forget about trying to get a version of v4 for os9 that is patchable.... happy at least that i have miraculously found a way to get v3.04 to work. the keygen posted for 4.04 by h2o is only for the windows 98/xp based v4.04 of live. it seems i will have to restrict myself to v3.0.4 on os9 and make do without the use of midi/vst.. ill just have to use cubase or nuendo for vst host...

i just wish that i could find a way to record audio back from a rewired slave using vst instruments IN REAL TIME.. this is a challenge because, when an application is loaded into another via rewire (in rewire slave mode) most do not have the ability to use 3rd party plugins, they suspend this ability in ableton if its opened in slave mode, (not that i have to worry about it, i dont have a copy of v4! lol)

and with using just cubase, if u were to load up a vst instrument + Create a midi track, record some notes untill u like what uve made, then you want to record it as audio? youll notice these vst channels on the mixer dont have record enable features... in order to record your sound AS AUDIO data you would have to stop the audio, and do a file->export and the audio will then appear in a new track, for you to then edit + arrange... this is annoying because then you have to mute the original source otherwise u will have two copies of the audio combining, this is generally what i like about using live-- u can just press record on a clip and whatever audio that is channeled thru that channel gets recorded AS AUDIO... its very easy record audio in live.. whether its from itself (other channels in the session view) or connected rewired apps such as reason.

the only workaround to get cubase to function as i want it to, and something i may just have to accept, is to be using a multiple in/out interface and to physically wire a pair of outputs back to a pair of inputs... just to be able to use the app as simply as one would think it should work.. you want to record? PRESS RECORD and it records.. but without this physical loopback + sacrifice of 1 pair of both inputs + outputs.. these seems to be something that continues to elude me.

in later versions of cubase (4.0 2006 and above, not 4.0 1998) its really easy to use the same approach pro tools was always capable of .. to make to a buss and then choose the buss as your input source.. I cant seem to find a way to do this in cubase or nuendo on os9 tho and if anyone has any solution.. would love to hear from you.
