The MacAddict Index

This is a treat. I recently created this webpage (based on a Nintendo Power index), which intends to catalog the entire MacAddict magazine itself, articles, reviews, etc.

The only thing it doesn't cover is the actual content itself but is a handy printable reference should you have access to the magazines (or PDF copies thereof).

Seeing as it's only "proof of concept" stage, I whipped up an extremely simple HTML page that covers just three issues (17 through 19).

Thoughts:

- I don't have anything prior to 17 (anyone up for selling a few?)
- I'm thinking of adding manufacturers to reviews, but is that necessary? What do you think?
- Sometime later in '98, they merged the How To, Power Play, Ask Us, and a bunch into "Power Up", so I'll separate that when necessary (they later reverted that). I'll probably put a formatting change list later.

Link here.

Fantastic! This will be an indispensable complement to Bob Kiwi's digitization project.

Fantastic, I didn't know Issues 1-16 were scanned! Now I can actually start from #1 and work up. Laughing out loud

I always thought that the PDFs would be made so much more useful with an Index. I heartily approve. I should probably get the rest of the scans online. It's been a busy spring, but this could be the nudge I need to get back into the thing.

Issues 1-4 were added, along with other fun stuff that's now in the Index, such as the Max thought bubbles.

Some notes:

- Writing the parts for Reviews is the hardest. The old MacAddict website actually listed reviews and their overall thoughts several years back, so it's possible I could dig through Archive.org to fast-track that. (EDIT: Yes they do)
- Even though the above is somewhat squared away, the listing for the Reviews already has 7 months and it's quickly getting to be out of control. Outsourcing it to another HTML page would be fine, but I don't want to juggle around multiple pages.
- If someone wants to work out a deal where we work on separate parts, I'm open to that.

That's pretty smart to use the Wayback machine. I hope it speeds your process up.
I was thinking about how it'd be great to link directly to MG entries too, as the links here usually have tons more information that a quick one line blurb has.

I put a link to your project in my post, but my post seems to be caught in the Twilight Zone at the moment (emailed MG), but I'm excited. Maybe towards winter I can offer more assistance other than more scans!

Links aren't happening: that would make my job harder, I don't want to drive too much to MG, we don't have everything, and that's not the list's purpose.

A second page will be added for 1999-2001 after I finish this list (1997 will be added next, then the rest of '98)

Confession time: I haven't made any updates to the list since last summer. It wasn't compelling enough to really continue: my eyes started to glaze over from all the PDFs since my collection doesn't start until around 1998, and with school that stuff all got lost in the shuffle. Later, I managed to revive some projects for my website (including a review section, which includes a few classic Mac games).

That being said, I know I added a few 1997 issues and added more features to the "working" HTML copy, but I just don't see myself working on a new version anytime soon. If anyone would like to officially take it over, please leave me a message at earthboundman[AT]gmail.com.
