Err, in the Classic System Folder, check for:
QuickDraw 3D v1.6
InputSprocket Extension v1.7.3
InputSprocket Classic v1.9

I have all of those... Those versions, too.

Darn, I can't think of any more extensions that it may need.

Episode 1 Pod Racer -

What about:
Classic RAVE v1.8.1
DivXâ„¢ Video 5

or the ATI / nVidia drivers ?
(All in Classic)

My OSX 10.4.11, plus all the required updates highlighted in Software Update) is a clean install, just my usual extra software packages installed on top - but no games.

What about USB HID Driver (in System Folder/Extensions) ? According to my game installer log file (from 2003), it installed it, but I don't have it there now.

You did blitz the old install and re-install from the full CD I posted didn't you ?

Is the OS9 System Folder writeable ?
Is the game install directory writable ?

There's a Switches.txt in the data folder in the game install dir, careful tinkering may help. Didn'trealise the game actually uses a resolution of 320x200, no wonder it's so fast. That can be tinkered in the switches file.

I don't have DivX or nVidia drivers. Maybe that's the problem?

I've RAVE and ATI, USB HID Driver and yes, I did reinstall the game. System folder, install directory is writable.

you only need the nVidia drivers if you have an nVidia card. Sounds like you have an ATI card.

I don't have the USB HID Driver (HID = Human Interface Device), perhaps you can disable it - Extensions Manager probably doesn't work in Classic so you may have to drag it manually to the "Extensions (Disabled)" folder.

Although there's nearly 200 other extensions, are there any other non-standard extensins - I don't think there will be since you've identified the System Folder as one designed for Classic.

How do you start Classic ? From the OSX System Pref "Start" button ? Or started with "Extensons Off" from the Advanced tab ?
It might be worth just starting Classic (from that Advanced tab) with Extensions off and see if it makes a difference. In theory the QuickDraw, QuickTime, USB, etc calls previously trapped by the OS9 Extensions should be trapped by OSX equivalents anyway (even under normal Classic).

Fingers crossed.

The game doesn't even start with extensions disabled, disabling just the HID Driver doesn't make a difference. Sad

I don't think I have any new extensions either, as you said I only use it for classic.

WOOHOOO !!!!!!

"I like it when a plan comes together" - respect if you can remember whose catch-phrase that was.
I know you don't burn cd's but that System Folder is one to keep.

And now you can admit Pod Racer is just slightly better than wo2097. But only if it's true.

If that doesn't work, I'll upload an installed version.

Found the workaround of uploading screenshots (simply using Firefox), trying out now with my uploads.
And I am looking for Sim City 3000?

Thanks

Oh, that would be so great OSX2000!

BTW, cataloging your media is very easy and quick for example with DiskCatalogMaker or CDFinder (even Mac OS 9 compatible)
That way you can quickly search for the file and find where it is stored.

No thanks at all, just a stupid bluff comment.

I can understand there are people who get excited about the things they upload, but the truth is that page had too many screenshots and the description text was too long. That wasn't the first time this happens and it won't be the last, and that's why I still think a guide must be written to address this common problem.

If you want to take it personal, that's your choice. I wasn't mocking you, man. I don't even know you. But if you plan to turn your previous uploads into litter pages, you're going to run into trouble with the powers that be and they're not as forgiving as I am.

The only one excited here is you, getting high on your admin powers.
Denial is the key to the abuse of power.

Those were pitty small screenshots, not hogging bandwidth, and the description was appropriate.

But in the end its not my choice but yours, if you want to ruin this site.

The people will always have the power.

I hate to interrupt your fight, but I for one don't see what's wrong with a long description. I quite like it. I always write a short one myself, but that's because I'm a horrible writer.

A man who likes to read! I like you even more now Carl. The thing with long descriptions is precisely that--they're too long. I would give you an example but I'm afraid that would start more hostilities.

Wait a second, I do have an example. In fact I have two: System Shock and Syndicate. I just axed the descriptions I made for those games because they were too long--and I must add here that I spent a few hours writing and rewriting them. If you check the past revisions, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Syndicate also serves as an example of a page with too many screenshots. I'm on my way of rebooting my machine into Mac OS 9 to change the order of those and ax at least a couple of them. And again, I uploaded those screenshots. But they have to go.

Maybe if pages were designed in a different way this wouldn't be a problem.

By the way, here's a page that in my humble opinion has a good description and a good number of screenshots:

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

Descriptions are the most important part of a game or application,
that's what makes us buy , or download software, and the more a game/App is described,
the better,
also since descriptions are just plain text, they don't hog bandwidth,
screenshots are just a complement of those descriptions,
and I think thats the reason Macgarden is basically a Wiki,
so we can post descriptions and comments about the games and applications.

I would never buy new software that doesn't have a good description on the back of the box,
so I totally support MileStones and encourage him to keep writing descriptions, specially if the descriptions are his own words, no matter how long they are,
not to mention that it also takes time to review a game or App.
so we should be thankful that someone takes the time to test the games and write about 'em.

also, I totally condemn threating other users in posts by telling them "they are in trouble"
when in fact, there's no trouble at all,
I think that's pretty serious and something should be done about it.

She's saying that because she got into trouble with me, I reported her to the moderators and now she's trying to get her revenge.

The worst thing of all is that she implies that trashing pages is "no trouble at all." No way. Trashing pages is vandalism and shouldn't be allowed.

Here's the affected page: I Spy Fantasy currently titled "Wise game knows better" with all content gone.

And I say it again: vandalizing pages will get you in trouble. Don't do it.

I got in trouble with no one,
perhaps you reported me because you couldn't win an argument with me,
so that was your last resort, and you did it out of anger and frustration,

and you just said that so others won't say anything to you,
who are you trying to scare?..or Threat?

but now again, you are trying to control everybody's posts and getting high on Admin powers,
(which by the way, You don't have)
they are right about it!, and People here is realizing how wrong you are about almost everything you say, no one supports you, and You are the ONE getting in trouble with everybody.
(Tatamisia, me, Milestones, etc.. and who knows who else might've felt uncomfortably with what you've said)
and just like MileStones said:

The people will always have the power.

and please do us a favor...quit brownNosing
