Xserve G4 won't see 2.5" sata hdd

Hey all, i'm trying to get my xserve g4 to see a spare 2.5" sata hdd i have but whatever i do it just won't even see that i have inserted the sled into the server (no power light on the sled, and the disk dosen't mount). I have tested the ide -> Sata adapter, sata cable, hdd & power cables in annother computer and they all work fine. and i tested the sled with a spare ide disk with two differen't 80pin cables and a 40 pin cable and the drive mounts fine every time. So the problem isn't the server, it isn't the sled, and it isn't the disk / adapter, it only appears when all 3 are combined.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what might be causing this?

isnt that xserve a ide to scsi machine ? at least the connection when i pull one out looks more like it so at the end you got a 3 way conversion that might be the problem

no, they just use a scsi u320 style plug to get the extra lines needed for power, led's and the insert/remove switch, the xserve it's self is ata

i dont know how you get the power but sonnet has a sata card for pci as far as i know. you could use a dummy sled and cut some holes for the extreme long sata cable and a power cable/splitter solution maybe ?
